How well did you answer the questions?

Question 1: Which of these settings is equal to 1/60 at f8?

  • 1/600 at f/80
  • 1/15 at f/16
  • 1/1000 at f/16
  • None of the above

Question 2: The ‘f’ in f-stop stands for what?

  • Focus
  • Foto
  • Focal
  • –I have no idea —

Question 3: Which series is correct?

  • 1, 1.5, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 12, 16, 22, 32
  • 0.5, 1, 2, 2.5, 4, 5.5, 8, 11, 16, 22, 32
  • 1, 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22, 32
  • — I’m not sure —

Question 4: What shutter speed was used to capture this image?

  • 1/250
  • 1/1000
  • 1/2000
  • — How am I supposed to know that? —

Explanation:

To stop fast human action a shutter speed of 1/500 sec. or faster is needed. Is the action frozen? The main subject (wearing red) is mostly frozen but if you look at her feet there is some blur. Looking at the ladies next to her, the wooden sticks are clearly blurred. This movement would be frozen at 1/2000 sec. and most likely also at 1/1000 sec. When you shoot fast action regularly and play around with shutter speeds you’ll become much better at identifying what shutter speed will be necessary for any given action.

Question 5: What aperture setting was used to capture this image?

  • f/5.6
  • f/11
  • f/22
  • — This one is just too hard to answer —

Question 6: How many camera lenses do you think John Greengo currently owns?

  • 3-15
  • 16-30
  • 31-49
  • More than 50

Yes, I know this is ridiculous! I have a problem and I don’t want any help. To be fair, I am actively working with 7 different camera systems and I need (OK, I like) to have a variety of lenses for when I go out and shoot with each one. Furthermore, I have some new special lens classes planned for the future.
